Apache - Nde (The People) are a culturally rich Nation with heritage tied to Mother Earth - thousands of years of lineage and knowledge passed down through countless generations since the time of creation. The San Carlos Apache Reservation is located in southeast Arizona, east of the city of Globe;  our 1.8 million acres include a wide range of lands and habitats -- including San Carlos Lake -- and ranging from Sonoran Desert along highway 70 where most visitors first enter our land, to Rocky Mountain montane conifer forest at the highest elevations.

Non-tribal members require a recreation permit to camp, picnic, hike, or venture onto back roads. Rates: ($10 per day) unless you have a fishing, hunting, or special-use permit. Family permits include parents and kids 18 and under. Visitors to the Black and Salt Rivers or Bear Wallow Creek must have a special permit. One-day permits are good for 24 hours from midnight to midnight. No permit is needed for driving through on US 60, US 70, Road 800 to San Carlos, or Road 500 to Coolidge Dam.
