Vehicle and Equipment Technician Sr. - Public Works - $47,176-$58,970

Globe, AZ - Full Time

  • The purpose of this position is to provide maintenance, advanced diagnostics, and performs repairs both out in the field and in the shop in order to ensure Gila County and it’s employees have safe, reliable and properly operating vehicles and equipment in addition to ensuring a clean and safe workplace.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs preventative maintenance, repairs, minor and major overhauls, car/truck/equipment performance evaluations, welding and fabrication and comprehensive multi-point safety inspections on all County cars, trucks and equipment to include cars, trucks, dump trucks, water trucks, transport trucks and trailers, roll off trucks, skid steers, backhoes, loaders, compactors, motor graders, bulldozers, and other specialized construction equipment and trailers.
  • Performs diagnostics to determine the nature of repairs required to ensure cars/trucks/equipment are safe and operable, including road tests before and after the repairs.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs on gasoline engines, diesel engines, manual and automatic transmissions, drivetrain components, tires, air brake/brakes, steering and suspension, exhaust and aftertreatment systems, hydraulic systems, air systems, electrical/electronic systems, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Assists with cars, light duty trucks, trailers, small gasoline engines, small equipment, generators, pumps, law enforcement equipment and other specialized types of equipment as required.
  • May supervise other employees in the absence of the Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Uses a variety of computers, computer software, laptops, scanners/printers, diagnostic equipment, scan tools, hand tools. power tools, service trucks and specialized equipment such as automotive lifts, pressure washers, cranes, welders, forklifts, and similar types of equipment as required.  
  • Documents and records repair and maintenance information both on paper and electronically via fleet management software.
  • Operates a variety of cars, trucks, service trucks, service equipment and towing equipment to provide field service maintenance and repairs and to provide emergency services for County vehicles and equipment sometimes after hours as deemed necessary.
  • Designs, fabricates, modifies, repairs and paints trucks and equipment using grinders, plasma cutters, and torches, brazing, fiberglass and a variety of welding styles and techniques. Installs additional equipment, modifications, emergency lighting and decaling such as stripes and emblems on County, law enforcement and emergency vehicles.
  • Maintains and keeps a clean and organized workplace including sweeping, mopping, picking up tools, and cleaning work benches; cleans and fuels trucks and equipment; picks up and delivers trucks and equipment in the field.

Minimum Education Required 

  • High School Diploma or GED.

Minimum Years of Directly Related Experience Required

  • Two (2) years combined of directly related on the job experience in car, truck, and equipment maintenance diagnostics, and repair; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Professional Credentials Required

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.  A valid Arizona Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Tanker and HAZMAT Endorsements is required.

  • Certifications in Gasoline Engine Repair, Diesel Engine Maintenance, Steering & Suspension, Brakes and Climate Control required.

  • Position is subject to drug and alcohol testing.
