Fleet Mechanic

General Purpose

The purpose of this position is to provide safe, functioning equipment and fleet vehicles to the City of Globe.  This position inspects, maintains, and records equipment and fleet vehicles. Grade 7

Examples of Duties 

• Perform comprehensive vehicle safety inspections and preventive maintenance, performs mechanical repairs, rebuilds small line and heavy line equipment, and some welding and fabrication.
• Ability to supply own basic mechanic tools. 
• Tests and diagnostic repairs on all city vehicles and equipment, including hydraulic systems, electrical system, pneumatic systems, drivability and safety of emergency equipment, small equipment, road equipment and fleet vehicles.
• Provides assistance with shop clean up, shop maintenance, this includes but not limited to sweeping the shop, moping the shop, as well as fueling equipment and delivering vehicles as needed.
• Must be able to communicate verbally as well as written reports, must be able to work in a team environment with safety as top priority.
• Performs other duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications 

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Knowledge of automotive mechanics, gas and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, fire pumps and valves and generators.
• Operate and understand scan tools and electronic diagnostic tools.
• Ability to read and understand manuals and schematics, both electronic and printed versions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public.
• Knowledge and experience with a variety of engines, mechanical parts, and mechanisms.
• Experience with mechanical hand tools and air powered tools.
• Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making authorized decisions.
• Available for occasional on-call hours.
• Valid Arizona driver's license (CDL endorsement a plus).
• Must pass background, drug screen, and physical examination.
