We are seeking caring individuals looking for an opportunity to assist others. This position will provide direct care services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The Direct Support Professional will participate in community integration/inclusion guidance, interaction with, families and significant involved persons, participates in opportunities for persons with disabilities to participate in community activities. The position ensures the health, safety and well-being of residential participants living in the facility through proper supervision.
Qualifications Required
- HS diploma or GED
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Possess valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record, MVD report and reliable transportation.
- Ability to prepare required paperwork to support and document activities in the contractually required time lines.
- Ability to type and working knowledge/familiarity with computers and electronic clinical record keeping.
- Obtain and pass post tests for First Aid, CPR, Article 9, Medication, and Prevention/Support Certification, DCW and any other required training. Agency will provide training if candidate does not possess.
- Able to operate independently with minimal oversight.
- Demonstrated skills to ensure respectful communication to participants and coworkers.
- Must obtain and maintain a fingerprint clearance card and pass a background check.
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays and a varied schedule each week
Qualifications Preferred
- Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Sign Language.
- Prior experience in Habilitation or Rehabilitation
- Associates Degree in the field
- Two years of experience in a person centered community integration program assisting persons with developmental and/or psychiatric disabilities.
- Two years of experience in habilitation/rehabilitative assistance to persons with psychiatric and/or developmental disabilities
- Very strong interpersonal skills
