This NON-EXEMPT (eligible for overtime) Grade 9 position in the Public Works Water Department will read water meters and perform a variety of semi-skilled repairs and maintenance, operate a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, and maintenance of City water and sewer lines and other City services and systems.
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience
- 1 to 3 years’ experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to read ¾” – 6” meters.
- Ability to locate and map locations of all meters.
- Must successfully complete ADEQ Water Distribution Certification level 1
- General knowledge of computers and handheld devices.
- Considerable knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance, construction and repair activities.
- Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment.
- Ability to perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work safely and carry out safety procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing and computer skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
- Ability to successfully complete AZ DOC Inmate Training
- Ability to successfully complete AZ 811 (Blue Stake) training
- Ability to successfully complete Traffic Control and Flagger training
- Ability to successfully complete Occupational and Hazards training
